Spectrum Allocation Algorithm Based on Maximal Independent Set in Cognitive Radio Networks

An expanding model of graph coloring is builded and a spectrum allocation algorithm using maximal independent set(MIS) is proposed based on the characteristic and request of the cognitive radio system. This algorithm can give consideration to both sides of utilization and fairness of spectrum allocation,and can reduce the convergence time of assigning without considering difference of spectrum benefits,so it is more suitable for the actual request of dynamic spectrum allocation in cognitive radio. Compared with list coloring greedy algorithm and list coloring fair algorithm,the emulation result shows MIS algorithm has better performance in utilization and fairness of spectrum allocation.
