Objective: To compare the effect of four stimulation patterns inducing motion sickness. Methods:Sixty male SD rats were assigned randomly to the five treatment groups. Using triangle stimulation pattern (frequency: 0.1 Hz, peak speed: 240°/s) and trapezoid stimulation pattern (acceleration: 10°/s 2, peak speed:240°/s during 5 min, then decelerated to 0) to induce motion sickness. The rats were stimulated for 1 h in triangle Ⅰ and trapezoid Ⅰ groups and for 1.5 h in triangle Ⅱ and trapezoid Ⅱ groups. The kaolin intake of rats was measured before and after stimulation. Results: As compared with control group, the amount of kaolin intake was significantly increased in triangle Ⅱ and trapezoid Ⅰ groups ( P 0.01) and in trapezoid Ⅱ group ( P 0.05). As compared with triangle Ⅰ group, the amount of kaolin intake was significantly increased in triangle Ⅱ and trapezoid Ⅰ groups ( P 0.05). Conclusion: The stimulation pattern in triangle Ⅱ and trapezoid Ⅰ groups is more effective to induce motion sickness.
