Method of Specimen Preparation for Collapsible Loess Microstructure Research

After repeated tests and result comparison of different specimen preparation methods,the materials and their composition for collapsible loess specimen impregnation were determined.Ideal specimens for loess microstructure characterization were prepared by the sampling procedure including air drying,impregnating,hardening,sawing,lapping,polishing and coating,which prevented any disturbance in loess structure.Based on this method,a series of clear and accurate loess microstructure images were obtained by using scanning electron microscopy.It lays the foundation for further qualitative and quantitative analysis on loess microsturcture,so as to reveal the relationship between the microstructure and the collapsibility of loess.
