WU Min-zhi · Journal of Yangzhou University · 2004
Based on what has been defined in the College English Syllabus, the writing skills of CET-4 and CET-6 consists of two parts: the ability of reading-digest-writing and that of passage writing. It is essential for English teachers to distinguish between the two writing skills. To a certain degree, the former is the ability to understand the organization of the main ideas and the supporting materials and to restructure them briefly in one's own words; the latter is the ability to select certain organizational patterns to develop different types of writing. Both of them are indispensable to the formation of the writing skills. In the process of writing skills development, they have an interactive relation. Therefore, to formulate the integrated writing skills, we should pay attention to the balance of the development of the two writing skills.
