Language Acquisition:From the Perspective of Construction Grammar

Jun Tang Yuan · Wai-yu yu wai-yu jiaoxue · 2010

On the basis of reviewing Chomskyan nativism, especially its new minimalist program paradigm, this paper argues strongly for the advantage and credibility of a construction grammar (CxG) perspective on language acquisition.Distinctive from mainstream CxG (such as that of Goldberg),our compromised construction grammar (CCxG) basically agrees with the standpoint of Pinker and Jackendoff (2005) in seeing language acquisition as a result of both the piecemeal learning of constructions and the drawing of grammatical rules from learned constructions through general cognitive ability.
