Research of Consistency Between ZHOUYI and Information Fusion

ZHOUYI or The Book of Changes is a Chinese ancient classic philosophical works written around in the year 1000 BC, in which the philosophy about CHANGES expounded profoundly and systematically. A comparison is made to ZHOUYI with the information fusion theory from the viewpoints of its essential idea, thinking methodology, model structure and application fields. Furthermore, an approach is provided to analyzing its structure step by step, i.e., compare its information acquisition, classification, processing, decision and classification adjustment with those techniques based on information fusion, such as the sensor's information acquisition, 1st ̄level processing covering objective optimization, localizing and identifying, situation assessment and threat estimate. A conclusion is drawn that the ancient methodology in ZHOUYI is coincident with the modern information fusion theory in nature. However its forecasting and decision ̄making are unique but couldn't give accurate and quantitative discrimination. It is convinced that combining the macroscopical views and methodology as shown in ZHOUYI with the concrete technique of information fusion will play a guiding role in information fusion.
