Hardware-based Technology to Prevent Buffer Overflow Attacks on Windows System——DEP

DEP is a hardware-based security technology issued by Microsoft Company, and it can prevent buffer overflow attacks effectively. The paper firstly introduces buffer overflow attack on windows system. On this base, the paper focuses on analyzing the principle, soft-hardware support and the use methods of DEP in detail. Finally, the differences between DEP and common antivirus software are explained.
