Forest Fires Observations by Using the New Doppler Weather Radar

In this paper, radar echoes caused by six cases of forest fires were anylized in Wenzhou and Lishui areas of Zhejiang province. The result revealed that the new doppler radar has obvious reflection to the smoke plume by forest fires, with the radar products of base reflectivity, radial velocity and so on.The doppler radarcould observations different overzealous areas of fires. The echo caused by forest fires have the same characteristics with clutter echoes, include small horizontal scale, low echo height and high echo intensity.Velocity couplet almost always presents in the radial velocity charts.Affected by the low wind and terrain, the echoes characteristics of forest fires occurred in the mainland have stronger radar signals than in the islands.
