In recent years, smart antenna technol- ogy has become one of the most attractive tech- nologies in mobile communications. Radio base stations can reduce materially interference in the system. expand the system capacity, lower the transmit power and improve senslbility by shaping their receive and transmit beams with an antenna array and baseband digital signal processing technology This results in greatly enhanced sys- tem performance and lowered equipment Smart antennas are first used in TD-SCDMA sys. tems and can also be used in CDMA FDD systems This article gives a brief description of the principle of smart antenna technology and yts implementa- tion in TC-SCDMA systems
