Application of WordNet to Identifying Metaphors

According to Grice,one of the most effective ways to identify metaphors is to employ conversational maxim.Thus,WordNet,with its intricate yet quite clear representation of hyponymy,can be used to fulfill this task.Metaphors can be identified by checking intersections between the words involved.If an interaction does occur,there is a metaphor.Besides,the hyponymy provided by WordNet can also offer a hand in explaining the meaning of the metaphor.
