Jiaozhou Bay is taken as an example to expound the tidal prism calculation, and the tidal prism estimated from the cruising ADCP data obtained respectively during 3 pieces of time intervals in the neap tide of autumn 2006 are used to compare with the result from the common algorithm. The results show that the tidal prisms estimated by means of the common algorithm varies in a greater range of the quantitutive value than that estimated by use of the observational current data. On an average, the mean prisms are respectively 6.303 and 6.408×108m3, with a difference of 0.177×108m3 between the 2 algorithms. Therefore the accuracy of the tidal prism estimated from the current measurement data can be verified and either of the 2 algorithms is effective for calculating the average tidal prism.
