Generic Structure of English and Chinese Linguistic Journal Abstracts:A Comparative Study

The same structural elements constitute the generic structure potential of both English and Chinese linguistic journal abstracts,and PS(purpose of study) is the obligatory generic element.However,in terms of actual generic structure,the two groups of abstracts show difference in the choice,the sequence as well as the frequency of occurrence of the generic elements.Compared with the Chinese abstracts,the actual generic structures of the English abstracts seem to be more complicated and enjoy more flexibility.
