Design of RS Decoder Based on DCME Arithmetic

Tao Bao · Jisuanji fangzhen · 2008

A kind of modified Reed-Solomon (RS) Decoder in time domain was studied in this paper. Operation modules which carry out addition, multiplication, inverse calculation in GF(28) were designed with MATLAB and QuartusⅡsoftware. Then RS codec software and hardware based on these operation modules were implemented using the Degree Computeless Modified Euclid arithmetic (DCME) and Fast Fourier Transformation in finite field. Besides, the design of the RS (15, 9) decoder which can correct three error symbols was realized with FPGA. Finally the simulation results in the decoding process were obtained. The simulation result shows that the modified RS decoder has such advantages as high efficiency to meet the demand of real-time communication transmission. It has simple control cells, regular module structure, and can be easily realized and used in high-speed situation.
