Objective Applying healthcare failure mode and effect analysis(HFMEA) to improve fall prevention measures among hospitalized elderly patients,so as to reduce the incidence of falls.Method Based on the approach of HFMEA,a fall prevention team was set up to formulate fall prevention work flow, analyze the failure mode and the causes of potential risks, calculate the Risk Priority Number(RPN).Then, some improvement measures were carried out aimed at the failure mode and priority problems. Results The RPN value was significantly decreased(P0.05) and the incidence of falls was reduced. Conclusion Applying FMEA can effectively prevent falls among hospitalized elderly patients, which can help nurses to accurately grasp the key points in different stages and effectively improve the quality of nursing.
