Design and Implementation of Spaceborne SAR Raw Data Compression Using Block Adaptive Quantization with FPGA

Block Adaptive Quantization(BAQ) is the most efficient algorithm for Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) raw data compression.In this paper,the theory on this algorithm is introduced.Aiming at real-time data transmission for spaceborne SAR,a BAQ scheme of data compression module which allows a changing compression ratio is recommended.The hardware implementation by field programmable gate array and the result are also given.This method is suitable for spaceborne SAR systems.
