Fuzzy Multiscale Edge Detection and Its Application for Medical Ultrasonic Images

In this paper, a fuzzy multiscale edge detection(FMED) method is introduced. A fuzzy multiscale edge membership function was built according to the concept of multifactor fuzzy membership, which was used in combination with wavelet transform. The wavelet transform of the image provides a multiscale description of the image. On the other hand, the multiscale fuzzy set provides a degree of membership belonging to the edge set of the images. Fuzzy multiscale edge detection method can combine different multiscale information of wavelet transform more effectively, and consequently, better results of multiscale edge detection can be obtained.
