Preparation of Cationic Emulsion of Acrylate Resin and its Application in Paper Sizing

Yiding Shen · Transactions of China Pulp and Paper · 2008

A novel preparation process of cationic acrylate resin is described in this paper. The emulsion polymerization of phenylethyhene, butyl acrylate, acrylamide and DMC is carried out in the presence of K2S2O8 as a initating agent and polyvinyl alcohol as a dispersing agent. According to the application result, the optimum polymerization conditions are as below: polymerization temperature 75℃, reaction time 2 h, m(BA)∶m(St)∶m(Am)∶m(DMC)∶m(PVA)=10∶10∶6∶8∶4. The product has self-emulsibility. The sizing performance of the emulsion indicates that the emulsion has fast sizing speed and good water-resistance, and it will decrease the paper softness obviously.
