Concept and basic configuration of local network technology L AN are introduced.Basic technology of10 Mbit/s Ethernet,development of 10 0 Mbit/s and1Gbit/s Ethernet and som e new technologies em erged in the recent years are discussed. It is predicted that L AN might still be developed rapidly in the near future especially in the areas of virtual L AN VL AN ,wireless L AN WL AN and1Gbit/s Ethernet.
