Distribution of Error Detection Delay for Error Correction Arithmetic Codes

The arithmetic code is a powerful entropy coding, and however, sensitive to transmission errors. So the arithmetic code with error detection and correction is proposed. In previous study, the distribution of Error Detection Delay (EDD) based on bit filling is modeled as a geometric distribution. Through study on the distribution of the EDD based on bit following, this article presents a new gamma distribution model of the symbol EDD. Finally, through curve fitting, the relation expressions on distribution are given. The comparisons of the result aquired from curve fitting with the result from experiment prores the reliability of this new distribution model.
