Ellipsis in English and Chinese: A Contrastive Study

Ellipsis as linguistic phenomenon exists in both English and Chinese and it plays an important role in the cohesion and coherence of texts. This paper, from different angles and levels, makes a detailed analysis of ellipsis in English and Chinese. The findings are: (1) there are similarities and differences in ellipsis in both English and Chinese; (2) the biggest difference lies in subject ellipsis in both languages.
