Advances in research on cytochrome P450 enzymes in skin

HU Jin-hong · Pharmaceutical Care and Research · 2008

Skin is one of the main extrahepatic metabolic organs and expresses many kinds of metabolic enzymes.Cytochrome P450 enzyme(CYP) is an isoenzyme which is coded by a super-family gene and contains heme.It is involved in metabolizing both endogenous and exogenous substances and plays important roles in maintaining normal function of skin and the stability of internal environment.Study on skin CYP is conducive to well understanding skin diseases and drug metabolic process in skin, which has very important significance in enhancing drug efficacy, developing new percutaneous preparations and preventing toxic effects of drugs and toxicants on skin.
