The prime problem in the automatic map generalization is quantifying the efficiency, and information quantity is the most important method for that in the map communication. This paper discusses the structure of map generalization in semiotic linguistics firstly. Then it proposes a quantitative-changing rule of information should be obeyed under the typification generalization constraints. This rule can be as the mathematic base for map evaluation,or as the evaluation function for the automation of progressive map generalization based on information quantity. The test proves that the rule meets the action of map generalization.
