ProLIC:A Progressive Method for Vector Field Visualization

Shihai Dong · Acta Simulata Systematica Sinica · 2001

Vector field visualization is one of the most challenging research issues for Visualization in Scientific Computing (ViSC). Texture based Line Integral Convolution (LIC) can effectively visualize direction of the vector field. However, it is too time consuming. ProLIC (Progressive LIC) was proposed to exploit LIC parallelism and hence a LIC image can be progressively computed and refreshed by segmentation, interleaving and splash techniques, with sketch LIC image quickly shown. ProLIC can be used for interactive ROI (Region Of Interest) visualization. ProLIC was further extended to Volume/Network ProLIC Model for large-scale Volume LIC and network oriented LIC.
