On the Consistency of Mono-pulse and Maximal Likelihood Estimation with Array Radar

XU Zhenha · Modern Radar · 2013

Based on the array radar return model, the mono-pulse angle measuring formula and weighted vector of difference beam have been deduced from the maximal likelihood( ML) estimation. Based on the ML criteria, the spatial spectrum based on beamforming has been brought forth. In nature, the mono-pulse angle measuring expression is the one-step iterative formula of searching maximum of spatial spectrum by Newton method. Then, the performance of the angle measuring has been analyzed. The angle error standard deviation is presented, which is direct proportion to the beam width and inverse proportion to the square root of array signal to noise ratio( ASNR). At last, the correctness of theoretical precision has been validated by simulations. This investigation shows up the inner relationship between mono-pulse and ML estimation.
