Research on object-oriented data model for digital geologic map

Though analyzing development situation of digital geologic map data model, the paper points out the disadvantage of present spatial data model and advantage of object-oriented spatial data model. Unifying research results of superiors and absorbing object-oriented thoughts and methods, the paper, from the view of cartography-designs a concept model of object-oriented digital geologic map data model by unified modeling language (UML). Experiments show that this model breaks the restriction of relational model. It integrates spatial data and attribute data more reasonably and effectively. Furthermore, it provides a scientific, logical, reliable, operable machine-made mode for efficient storage, management, analysis, application and visualization expression of digital geological map.
