Discourse,Context and Machine Translation Quality

The current Machine Translation(MT) systems,mostly sentence-based,devote little attention to discourse and context in source language analysis.As a result,MT quality is seriously impaired.This paper pinpoints from discourse and contextual perspectives the inadequacies of current MT systems in source language analysis.It also analyses the features and functions of discourse and context and their influences on word and sentence meaning.Finally,implications for further improvement in machine translation are provided.
