An Improved LIC Algorithm for Vector Field Visualization

GU Yao-lin · Journal of Engineering Graphics · 2006

Line Integral Convolution(LIC) is a powerful technique for vector field visualization.Since introducing in 1993,the method has been used rapidly in many application areas, ranging from computer arts to scientific visualization. In the visualization process of LIC,the streamline tracing is a very important step.the Euler method is often used traditionally in calculating streamline tracing, but it requires more computations and often gets emanative integral results. In order to alter the integral length automatically, the paper uses a method of variational integral length to trace vector field depending on the emanative degree of vector field. The experiment shows that the improved method gets satisfactory results.
