The principal advantages of direct volume-rendering techniques over other visualization methods are their superior image quality and the ability to generate images without explicitly defining surface geometry.The principal drawback of these techniques is their cost.Since all voxels participate in the generation of each image,rendering time grows linearly with the size of the dataset.This paper presents a adaptive binary-volume pyramid-based volume-rendering algorithm,in which volume rendering is generated quickly without lowing image quality.
