ASIC Design of RPR MAC and its Application

Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) is a new metropolitan area network (MAN) technology. Its media access control (MAC) protocol is being changed and improved. Now the draft is proposed. Many efforts have been put into the RPR research work. This paper is with focus on the implementation of RPR draft. The RPR MAC Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASIC) design scheme and the RPR MAC client entity implementation are presented. An experiment network built on the design is described. Packet transmission methods in RPR network are also discussed.
