The multi-stage network based on clos network is widely used in high performance switches and routers with a scalable architecture. In order to improve the scheduling algorithm, which push the packets to the egress by two-hop scheduling algorithms. These algorithms, however, focus less on the attributes of the data flow. An efficient traffic scheduling called traffic-oriented credit-based scheduling algorithm for scheduling both fixed-size or variable length packets on high speed packet switches with a multi-stage architecture is presented. This scheduling scheme is a pull scheme which can achieve 100% throughput under uniform traffic with comparable delay performance and also support different QoS disciplines and cell load-balancing.
