Exploring New Ideas of Drug Development from Small Molecule Drugs

Objective: To elaborate the advantages of small molecule drugs,and propose that small molecules library is a better drug-screening library.Method: Small molecule drugs for single target were selected from DrugBank and used to construct target-structure network.Then,chemical space of small molecule drugs was to be explored.At last,principal chemical properties were analyzed statistically.Results: The class for α/β was the most common type in the structure class of small molecule drugs' targets(47.98%),and the oldest folds covered more drugs and targets.In addition,small molecule drugs had a better diversity as well as the advantage of chemical properties.Conclusion: Construction of the target-structure network provided a new idea for further study of the natural products evolution,and small molecule compounds library is better for drug-screening in drug design.
