Research on the Causes of yi(以) and chi(持) Being Incapable of Entering the Norrow Disposal Construction

The paper discusses the causes of the yi(以)-construction and the chi(持)-con- struction being incapable of developing from the broad disposal construction to the marrow disposal construction during the Middle Chinese Period(i.e.,Eastern Han and Wei-Jin Peri- od).The motivations lie in two aspects:The first aspect of syntactical circumstances that the V_1O_1V_2O_2-construction did not appear when O_1 and O_2 referred to the same objects;the latter aspect of syntactical circumstances that the V_1O_1V_2O_2-construction was limited when O_1 and O_2 referred to the different object.
