Objective To observe the impairment effects of low dose of mannitol on the renal function, and to determine the relationship between the impairment effect and age. Methods The data from 1177 cases of acute intracranial hypertension in different age groups and treated with low dose of mannitol were retrospective studied. Results Renal function lesion was observed in 130 cases of this group; and along with the increase of age, the incidence rate of impaired renal function was increased (r=0.95,P0.01), the level of the impaired renal function was aggravated (r=0.951,P0.01), and the doses of mannitol were diminished significantly(r=0.977,P0.01). Conclusion Low dose of mannitol can cause impaired renal function, and there are relationship between its occurrence , impaired degree and age.
