Experimental study on vacuum freeze-drying process for anchaeological wooden artifacts

Heng Lü · Vacuum · 2011

Freeze-drying is an effective process to remove the water from waterlogged archaeological artifacts. With the PEG2000 solution whose concentration was gradually increased applied to the samples of those articrafts and then they were freeze-dried on a freeze-drier we developed, the results showed that no cracks/fractures are found on the samples.A 460g-sample as the biggest one revealed that its 3-D shrinkage ratios are all less than 2.5% after freeze-drying.
