Box Diagrams:A Formalization Program for Construction Grammar
Yi Wang · Foreign Language and Literature · 2011
Box Diagrams are a usual practice nowadays for the representation of construction's features in Construction Grammar, which, from its surface form, look more complicated with the over-elaboration of tagging, thus making it obviously different from TG's Tree Diagram. But they also have a lot of advantages: easy perception and vivid expression, the integration of syntax, semantics and pragmatics into one diagram with lots of information.Box Diagrams are mainly of three types: Box Nesting Diagrams,Feature Structure Diagrams, and Co-indexation.The present paper has also taken WXDY Construction as an example to illustrate the structure and function of Box Diagram. Its pros and cons have also been given at the end of the paper.
