Face recognition:From 2D to 3D

Jingwen Yan · Computer Engineering and Applications Journal · 2011

As an aspect of biometric technologies, face recognition plays an increasingly important role.Though the majority of face recognition research focuses on the use of two-dimensional intensity images,3D face models hold more information, like surface information, that can be used for face recognition. From 2D to 3D,face recognition research has entered a new stage. This paper introduces 3D face data acquisition modes, describes the recent 3D face recognition algorithms and classifies them.It draws the conclusion that targeted acquisition of 3D face data is the basis for effective recognition.
