ON DISTRIBUTION CHARACTERISTICS OF WATER TRANSPARENCY IN THE EAST CHINA SEA

We have collected data on water transparency in the East China Sea for 21 years (1959-1979) and plotted distribution graphs,which show clearly the characteristics of water transparency in this area.The conclusions drawn are as follows:l)The transparency of the East China Sea is lower than that of oceanic waters.And the transparenocy of the offshore areas is lower than that of the outshore areas.The transparency in the southeastern waters is higher than that in the northwestern waters.2)The transparency in the Bohai Sea is the lowest among the East China Sea areas and varies greatly with seasons.3)The transparency distribution in the Yellow Sea depends on the characteristics of the bottom soil and topography.4)Strongly affected by coastal currents and Taiwan warm currents,areas with higher and lower transparency intermingle,hence complex optical structure of water in this area.
