The Optimization of Side Information with Several Strategies for Distributed Video Coding

Zehg Qiang-yu · Journal of Sichuan University · 2008

The quality of side information influences the overall Rate-Distortion(RD) performance of the Distributed Video Coding(DVC) codec. In order to optimize the RD performance of DVC by improving the quality of side information, based on the introduction of basic way to interpolation the side information, three different strategies was proposed to optimize the side information.Firstly, the initial motion vectors was obtained using traditional unidirectional motion estimation, then the Overlapped Symmetric Bi-directional Motion Estimation and Adaptive Weighted Motion Field Filter were used to improve the motion field, and Weighted and Overlapped Motion Compensation was lastly used to reduce the block artifact.Experimental results showed that compared to other algorithms, the proposed strategies can significant improve the RD performance of the video coding system with out increase encoding complexity.
