Fast intra mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC high profile

To simplify the high computational complexity of intra mode selection for H.264/AVC high profilea,novel fast in-tra mode decision algorithm based on texture information is proposed in this paper.Firstt,he block size mode can be predicted by MB’s texture complexity which is detected by the mean of absolute differencest;hent,he candidate prediction modes can be selected by the texture direction which is detected by the mean of absolute adjacent-pixel-difference.Experimental results show that the computational complexity of intra mode selection can be reduced effectively when the above two parts work independently with the encoding speed improved about 27% and 64% respectively,while the effection on RD performance is very slightly.The integrated algortihm can make the speed of intra coding improve over 70% with almost the same RD per-formance.
