An energy-efficient AODV routing protocol based on link stability

Chen Song-qiao · Journal of Circuits and Systems · 2008

Mobile nodes in ad-hoc networks strongly depend on the efficient use of their batteries. This paper proposes a new metric, the Power Cost Function(PCF), to locate bottleneck node of a route. This metric is combined dynamcally with the value of the remaining battery capacity and using condition to determine which nodes can be part of an active route. An energy-efficient AODV routing protocol(E-AODV) is proposed based on new route selection mechanisms and mobility prediction.Using the Glomosim simulator, this paper compares E-AODV against prior AODV.The simulation results show that using the PCF for energy-efficient route protocol extends life and enhances the efficiencies of the data forwarding and energy consumption.
