The causation、measure and reduction of blocking effect

Transform encode is widely used in image compression.DCT transform is accepted by many international standard such as MPEG H.263 and JPEG because of it's “Near Best transform” characteristic.But in the compression system based on DCT transform,blocking effect is a major degradation of image quality.In this paper,at first we analyze why and how the blocking effect appears,then we introduce some kinds of measure and reduction algorithm of blocking effect and make some comparison.
