Automatic Marking for Landmarks of Active Shape Model Based on Variation Domain

Xiuqing Wu · Jisuanji fangzhen · 2008

With respect to the marking problem of Active Shape Model(ASM), a variation domain concept is presented, which is used for marking landmarks of ASM automatically. Magnitudes, frequencies and distribution of shape variations are obtained through a variation mapping on training sample set. Based on D-P algorithm, a dynamic marking algorithm is applied to set the location and density of landmarks for the mean shape according to the information in variation domain. Thus variation of the sample set is introduced into marking phase as a prior knowledge, which improves landmarks' capability to describe the variations of the sample set. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve a more reliable distribution of landmarks, a more accurate description of sample shapes and variations, and a more compact shape model of ASM.
