A Fast Intersecting Feature Check and Detection Approach Based on Persistently Naming Geometric Entities and Its Application

Zheng Chen · Journal of Computer-Aided Design & Computer Graphics · 2001

Intersecting feature check and detection is a basic problem in feature based CAD/CAM system. The usual approach checks whether two features are intersecting by performing Boolean operation between feature volumes. In order to avoid using very time consuming Boolean operations, a new approach based on persistently naming mechanism of geometric entities is proposed. The approach is of high efficiency because it replaces Boolean operation by just checking names of features' faces.
