Assembler is one of the tools in compile toolchain, which is the most relative segment to the chips.When designing new chips,a full-fledged and convenient assembler must be developed in short time to guarantee that the design can be carried out as written in the plan. Porting GAS, the GNU assembler, is preferred. The paper analyzes the sources of GAS and points out the keys in porting it. Using this methods, one can port GAS to a new chip with less time and higher quality.
