A novel adaptive spatio-temporal encoding with crosstalk elimination

The increasing coupling effects between wires lead to serious crosstalk for on-chip bus.Based on crosstalk model,an adaptive temporal encoding(ATE) is proposed, which transmits the worst-case crosstalk bus data with two cycles by first updating odd bits and then even bits. The ATE reduces the self-switching energy while eliminating the worst-case crosstalk.Combining the ATE with Adaptive Code-book Encoding forms an adaptive spatio-temporal encoding(ASTE).Simulation results indicate that the ASTE can provide above 30% time saving and 4%~38% energy saving at the cost of only 6 additional lines for 32-bit data bus.
