Some Thoughts on Spatial Data Uncertainty in GIS

LI Deren · Journal of Zhengzhou Institute of Surveying and Mapping · 2006

After thinking about spatial data uncertainty in GIS,the author proposed five suggestions about it,namely: 1) it was necessary to distinguish whether objects were uncertainty objects or not;2) for the quality analysis of curve and surface,it was necessary to distinguish fitting errors and measurement errors of districted points;3) for spatial data uncertainty study not only geometry, but also attributes(semantic) and temporal uncertainty could be considered carefully;4) quality of service(QoS) was much more important than quality of data(QoD) in GIS quality control;5) the study on spatial data uncertainty should be put forward to practical application.
