Objective To investigate difference of metric ruler, videorefactor and pupillometer in measuring pupillary distance (PD).Methods The PD of 70 persons was measuring respectively by metric ruler, videorefactor and pipullometer, including bilateral far-sighted PD,bilateral near-sighted PD,unilateral far-sighted PD and unilateral near-sighted PD.Results The bilateral far-sighted PD was 62.15±4.02(x±SD),62±3.96 and 61.56±4.08 respectively by mezric ruler, videorefactor and pupillometer, there was no statistical differences among these methods(F=0.83,P=0.4359).The bilateral near-sighted PD was 60±3.7(x±SD),57.1±3.6 respectiuely by metric ruler and pupillmeter, there was statistical differences (t=15.27,p0.01).Comparison of metric rulerand pupillometer measuring unilateral far-sighted PD (S=-2347.5,p0.001) and unulateral near-sighted PD (S=3001,p0.001),revealed statistical differences. Conclusions The metric ruler is easy to use and exact in bilateral far-sighted PD.The pupillometer is more exact especially in measuring bilateral near-sighted PD and unilateral PD.The videorefactor is only useful to measure bilateral near-sighted PD.
