The Function of Schema Theory in English Reading Comprehension

This paper introduces schema and schema theory and illustrates the function of schema theory in English reading comprehension. It also claims that reading is not only a process of learning how to read and how to interpret, but also a process of interacting between psychological factor and background knowledge. The reader should apply the methods of “bottom-top” and “top-bottom” to reading comprehension so as to achieve efficient comprehension.
