Adaptive Early Termination Algorithm for Motion Estimation

Unsymmetrical cross grid search(UMHexagonS) is a good motion search algorithm in AVS video coding,but it still exists large amount of computation.In order to reduce the computation,early termination algorithm based on adaptive threshold values is introduced into motion search.Firstly,SAD threshold is selected adaptively and early termination judgment of the search and SAD calculation is introduced.Secondly,early comparison of cost values is introduced into mode decision,this method is significantly improvement for the slow motion sequences.The experiments show that,in the case of inter-prediction without using intra-prediction mode,the optimized algorithm can increase the encoding speed more than twice with video quality basically unchanged.
