Motion estimation algorithm in video compression

The aim of this study is focused on the video compression algorithm.Based on the research of MVFAST,PMVFAST and UMHexagonS algorithms,an improved algorithm based on block matching is proposed.The improved algorithm through center excursion,relevence and distrbution of motion vector,use two temple octagon shape and diamond shape,which spead up the image's content and the motion' s orientation.The results of experiments show that the improved algorithm reduces the motion estimation time greatly,while keeping similar visual quality.This improved algorithm can reduce encoding time greatly with similar visual quality,so it has great value in practice.
